Just a thought....

Today in São Paulo, a man shot three people and then hid in his house for 8 hours until the Police finally convinced him to turn himself in.

What intrigued me about the whole story is that all two big stations, ‘Globo’ and ‘Record’, televised it from 8:30 to 1:00 pm. I kept imagining why they had canceled their programs to show a bunch of cops in front of a house while there were helicopters flying around and they did not know what exactly was going on. The shooter was no one famous or important and it was not like he’d be shooting anyone else.

It made me wonder what the truth behind the story was. They only stopped televising the story when the afternoon shows came on. The morning shows are live, perhaps that is why they could have done that, unlike the afternoon shows. However, couldn’t they have shown something more educational? Wasn’t there anything else going on in the country they could have focused on? Perhaps there was. I believe that people nowadays like to see tragic stories. They like to see blood and people getting hurt.  But then again, there is a lot of violence here in São Paulo and you think that people would get more pleasure out of watching other things other than violence and crime. Humans are strange and I wonder if I will ever figure them out.

What do you have to say about this?

  1. Essa é a mídia, Meire. A mídia televisiva.

  2. Thanks for your comment Ruth. I do agree with you. It just amazes me sometimes. It felt like they were trying to hide something much more important that is going on in the country.
